Change Makers launch StudentShapers projects

by Ms Cleo Bowen

The Imperial Horizons Change Makers Team have had two projects approved under the College's StudentShapers scheme.

StudentShapers is Imperial’s student partnership programme open to students within the college and is part of the College’s Learning and Teaching Strategy. StudentShapers offers students the opportunity to undertake projects in partnership with staff to improve curricula, develop innovative teaching practices and make positive change to the student experience.

Elizabeth Hauke will be leading a partnership autoethnographic study project called 'Dear Diary' and Cleo Bowen will be leading a project exploring student expectations and outcomes, entitled 'Great Expectations'. In both cases, Horizons students will be partnering with CLCC staff to provide valuable insights into Horizons teaching and learning.

In approving the Great Expectations project, Dr Mike Streule, Imperial StudentShapers Director, noted that the project "pursues a potentially powerful way to design student surveys that can yield richer and more powerful data compared to that of SOLE [...] Both the project itself and the outcomes of the survey therefore have a potentially useful message to be conveyed to the wider College community."

The two projects are now open to recruitment and seeking student partners. Bursaries for the student partners are provided via StudentShapers.

The Change Makers team has two further student partnership projects planned for this Autumn. Once all four projects are completed, outcomes will be disseminated via a seminar style show-and-tell event as part of the ‘Humanities@70’ celebration events running from March-July 2020.
