Focus on… Science Communication and Policy Week (27-31 Jan)
Celebrating science communication and policy related work with a range of speakers from Imperial, Civil Service Fast Stream, Springer Nature
Starting on Monday 27 January, the Imperial Careers Service is running a Focus on Science Communication and Policy Week (27-31 January) – with a dedicated week-long programme of events tailor-made to introduce you to a career in science communications and policy.
Please note that all events take place in the Careers Service, Level 5 Sherfield Building, unless otherwise stated.

Tuesday 28 January, 12:30 – 13:30
Careers Café : working in the Civil Service
This Career Café will be facilitated?by?the Civil Service Fast Stream. It will be an informal, student-led discussion around what it is like working in the Civil Service, facilitated by Hollie Bark (who is a second year Finance Fast Streamer), and Dan Burke (a second year Generalist Fast Streamer).

Careers Café with Jack Leeming – Springer Nature
Jack is a careers editor at Nature where he manages Nature’s community careers content, careers features and supplements in Nature, writing and photography competitions, live events and careers outreach.
Jack trained as a chemist, and has worked as a freelance writer, technical writer, copy editor and journalist.

Career Discovery…. Internships in Science Communication
Careers Service (Norma & Rhiannon)
Looking to gain work experience in Science Communication? This seminar will provide an overview of the field and give an insight into the various avenues to identify opportunities available. We will explore the factors affecting the sector and provide you with the key qualities employers are looking for.? Last, but by no means least, the seminar will equip you with the resources to improve your ability to search and apply for internships.

Science Careers Fair, Queen's Tower Rooms
The Science Careers Fair is sector specific to help draw your attention to the opportunities available to Imperial students within the science industry.?All year groups of students - particularly from Natural Sciences, Life Sciences and Medicine - are encouraged to attend the event, from first years to PhDs.

Friday 31 January, 10:00 – 12:00
These 15-minute appointments provide the opportunity for you to talk with someone from the Civil Service, to ask any questions about the nature of the work of the Civil Service. The appointments are flexible and you can frame the discussion how you like, useful areas to discuss may include recruitment, application and selection processes.

‘A future in Science Communication – your questions answered’ talk with Dr Stephen Webster
Stephen will discuss the best ways to get involved in science communication, including the route offered by Imperial’s MSc Science Communication
The session will be led by Stephen Webster, of Imperial’s Science Communication Unit.??
