Conferences, Talks, Lectures, Seminars

The PGE group has organised two successful stay-at-home seminars in April. The first online PGE seminar was given on 7th April by PhD student Mutlaq Alarouj, who presented his research on Waterfront Imaging using Self-Potential: Feasibility Assessment for a Kuwaiti Oil Reservoir. The second remote seminar took place on 28th April, when Professor Ann Muggeridge presented a novel advanced EOR screening approach.

Both online seminars have been very successful, attracting a large audience. The PGE seminars organisers are currently looking for potential speakers who would like to present their research to the group. If you are interested in holding a talk, please do get in touch with Robin Thomas!

Awards

Gabriela Salomao Martins (PhD student, Basins Research Group) has received the CASP Andrew Whitham fieldwork award worth of £1800 to support her field research about salt tectonics in Morocco next year.

CASP is a charitable trust that conducts and publishes research into regional geology through fieldwork and related analytical studies. CASP offers annually five awards specifically to promote fieldwork for early career geologists. These awards are named in honour of Andrew Whitham, formerly Chief Geologist of CASP.

Oscar Calderon Agudo has been selected amongst the highly commended entries for the World Engineering Day Young Engineers’ Competition 2020 organised by UNESCO for his contribution towards brain imaging with ultrasound and geophysical imaging techniques.

Grants

The UK Goverment’s Defence and Security Accelerator (DASA) have awarded 21 contracts worth £2m to small and medium businesses and research groups, for improving autonomous vehicles and systems operating in challenging environments.

ESE is included in the list of funded organisations under this first phase of the call. Jian Guo Liu, Philippa Mason and PDRA Zhencong Zhao have now started their project ‘Real-time 3D Vision for UAS Awareness in Challenging Environments’ and will be competing for the next phase of funding in Sept/Oct 2020.
