Chemical Engineering rated highest for student satisfaction among Russell Group
Of the students who responded to the latest NSS survey, over 90% agreed that they were satisfied overall with the course.
The Department of Chemical Engineering at Imperial College London has been ranked first for student satisfaction among Russell Group Universities in the National Student Survey 2020. It placed third overall out of the 30 UK Higher Education Institutions in the Chemical, Process and Energy Engineering subject area.
In the latest NSS survey, 90.1% of respondents from the Department agreed that they were satisfied overall with their course. This is an increase of 8.1% from 2019.
The Department also saw increases in satisfaction with teaching (91.4%), learning opportunities (90%) and assessment and feedback (76.1%).
Since the 2019 NSS survey we have made several improvements to the Department in response to student feedback, including renovating a new undergraduate chillout room and undergraduate study areas, appointing a dedicated student wellbeing advisor, and improving the timely release of exam and coursework feedback.
Professor Klaus Hellgardt, Director of Undergraduate Studies, commented on the results: "We are delighted with the recent NSS results for the Department. They show that our students really appreciate the hard work and dedication our colleagues invest into making the Imperial Experience enriching and rewarding.
"We continue to make improvements to all aspects of our course, counting on the valuable support of our students, our very active ChemEng Soc, our well-being advisor and our dedicated administrative, academic and teaching staff members. I am thankful to them for this sterling result and wish them a well-deserved summer break."
