Structural energy storage in WIRED - Science Report
A brief history and vision of future uses for structural power materials
The development of batteries by embedding them into structures, and removing the packaging to reduce weight - thus increasing the range of electric cars, was highlighted by Elon Musk recently; Danial Oberhaus, writing in WIRED, discusses with Prof Emile S Greenhalgh (Imperial College London) and Prof Leif E Asp (Chalmers), how this idea was in development over 10 years ago, and lead to the successful collaborative StorAGE and SORCERER projects. A vision of future uses for these materials, as effectively weightless and invisible power sources, will change our world more than we might expect.
