Winner of the Gold medal for Chemistry at this year's STEM for Britain competition

Ben Lewis, a PhD student in the Institute for Chemical Biology CDT co-supervised by Dr Marina Kuimova, Prof Ramon Vilar and Dr Jean-Baptiste Vannier (MRC LMS) won the Gold medal for Chemistry at this year's STEM for Britain competition. STEM for Britain is an annual poster competition organised by the Parliamentary and Scientific Committee and is designed to give members of both Houses of Parliament an insight into the research carried out in UK universities by early-career researchers. This year's event was conducted online rather than in Westminster but was still attended by a significant number of parliamentarians, including the local MP for the White City campus, Andy Slaughter. Finalists included researchers from universities across the UK who each presented their poster on Zoom to the judging panel. Ben's winning entry was titled "Imaging G-Quadruplex DNA in live cells using Fluorescence Lifetime Imaging Microscopy" and can be viewed on the competition website.
