Congratulations Simeon!

by Jennie Hutton

Congratulations to Simeon Draganov who won a poster prize at the RSC BMCS and RSC NAG 2nd nucleosides and nucleotides conference

Third year ICB CDT PhD student Simeon attended the RSC BMCS and RSC NAG 2nd Nucleosides and Nucleotides: synthetic and biological chemistry symposium on 20th April and won joint 2nd place poster prize.

The conference focused on the development of modern nucleoside and nucleotide chemistry and brought together scientists who work at the interfaces of synthetic and biological chemistry from The USA and Europe. Nucleosides are important structures for drug development and are known antiviral and anticancer agents and nucleotides have become valuable tools for chemical biology, sequencing technologies and synthetic biology.

Simeon’s poster detailed his current research on the development of novel prodrug nucleotide probes for studying the dynamics of the protein post-translational modification ADP-ribosylation in living cells. The poster, along with all of the posters presented, can be viewed here.

Simeon’s work is funded by the EPSRC through the ICB CDT and the British Heart Foundation.
