Robert Zimmerman gave a presentation entitled "One-dimensional flow to a constant-pressure boundary in a pressure-sensitive porous medium", at the (online) 2021 Biot Conference on the Mechanics and Physics of Porous Media. The presentation was based on the summer projects of two of our Petroleum Engineering MSc students, Gospel Stewart and Amarjot Bhullar.
On May 19th Carl Jacquemyn gave an invited talk about Rapid Reservoir Modelling in the SPE Open Subsurface workshop highlighting open-source and open-data projects.
Events
The H2FC Supergen Hub are hosting a virtual event to celebrate 18 years of the Supergens and hydrogen and fuel cell research. Professor Nigel Brandon, director of the hub, is the event chair.
International alumni from the Supergens will be discussing a wide range of topics (technical and non-technical) including:
- Advanced materials for fuel cells and electrolytes;
- Hydrogen storage
- Hydrogen safety
- Technology commercialisations
- Policy issues
- Hydrogen future
- Future skills
- Science communication/ public outreach.
The event will take place on Wednesday, 14th July 2021 from 10.30-16.30 on MS Teams Live and it will be followed by a networking reception on Wonder from 16.30-17.30. You can register for the event here!
Awards
Diego Mesa has received the IMPC Young Author’s Award, issued by the Organising Committee of the International Mineral Processing Congress 2020, which recognises the most outstanding papers in which the main author is a person younger than 35 years of age. The awarded paper was titled "Hydrodynamic characterization of flotation impeller designs using Positron Emission Particle Tracking (PEPT)", which was a collaboration with co-authors Katie Cole and Michael van Heerden, from University of Cape Town, and Pablo Brito-Parada.
New Staff
We are delighted to welcome Anita Murphy to the department, in the new Student Wellbeing Advisor role. Anita will be working across undergraduate and postgraduate students (both taught and research).
