Mohammed Quddus appointed Professor of Intelligent Transport Systems
Mohammed Quddus appointed Professor of Intelligent Transport Systems in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering.
Imperial College London has appointed a world-leading scholar, Mohammed Quddus as Professor of Intelligent Transport Systems. Professor Quddus is renowned internationally for his ground-breaking research in transport safety, autonomous and connected mobility, big data analytics and map-matching for Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS). His seminal papers on AI-based map-matching algorithms have been influential and are highly cited by researchers world-wide in addition to being implemented by the ITS industry, car manufacturers and National Highways (UK). Professor Quddus joins Imperial from Loughborough University where he was the Professor of Intelligent Transport Systems and Head of Transport and Urban Planning Group in the School of Architecture, Building and Civil Engineering.
Professor Quddus received his PhD in Intelligent Transport Systems from Imperial College London, MSc in Transport Engineering from the National University of Singapore and a BSc in Civil Engineering from the Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET).
Commenting on this strategic appointment, Professor Washington Yotto Ochieng, Head of the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering said, “I am delighted to announce that Professor Mohammed Quddus has returned to Imperial College London as the Professor of Intelligent Transport Systems in the Centre for Transport Studies within the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering. We are incredibly privileged to bring to Imperial one of the world’s leading transport professors. In addition to contributing to research, teaching and administration departmentally, Professor Quddus has research interests and expertise beyond transport and looks forward to collaborating within the wider Faculty of Engineering and College. This appointment demonstrates our long-term commitment to continuing our tradition of inclusive excellence in Civil and Environmental Engineering at Imperial.
Commenting on his appointment, Professor Quddus said, “I am excited to return to Imperial and the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering after 15 years. I look forward to working with other world-leading scholars at Imperial and beyond including other stakeholders in industry ang government, in solving fundamental research challenges in the areas of connected and autonomous vehicles (CAVs), AI/Machine Learning for transport data analytics and transport safety. Capitalising on my excellent international networks, I will further develop strong links between Imperial and universities around the world. Always close to his heart, Professor Quddus says, “a key objective of mine is to produce high-quality graduates who are well-equipped to solve future translational challenges faced by our society”
