Five students in the Royal School of Mines have each received bursaries from the Royal School of Mines Association.

The Royal School of Mines Association launched the 'RSMA 100 Club Final Year Student Bursary Prize' in 2018 to provide selected final year students with a grant worth £1000. The bursary is awarded to final year students who have acted as ambassadors for the Royal School of Mines. 

Since the launch, the RSMA has awarded bursaries to 16 students in the Royal School of Mines. These grants have supported student inclusivity in several ways, including providing financial support while studying, attending conferences, and paying for field trips.

Bursary funds are raised from the generosity of former RSMA students who want to give back to current students, and recipients must be final year students within the Royal School of Mines. 

All of this year’s winners are a shining example of students who have demonstrated true RSM spirit and uphold the values of the RSM by giving comradeship, help and advice. Tim Cotton Royal School of Mines Association President

Tim Cotton, the President of the Royal School of Mines Association, commented: "It is extremely rewarding to see how the Alumni of the Royal School of Mines have pulled together to donate funds to support worthy RSM students as they transition away from student life. 

All of this year’s winners, as well as those from past years, are a shining example of students who have demonstrated true RSM spirit and uphold the values of the RSM by giving comradeship, help and advice."

The RSMA 100 Club Final Year Student Bursary Prize Winners 2022 are Teigan Collins, Jasmine Crocker, Jessica Dring-Morris, George Morgan and James Wood. 

Teigan Collins: Earth Science and Engineering

Teigan Collins is the President of the Imperial Geology Society. She previously held the role of Honorary Secretary and Wellbeing Representative in her third year, as well as Fieldtrip Officer and Industrial Liaison Officer in previous years.

Teigan commented, "For me, receiving the bursary was not only a monetary reward but was a recognition of my contribution to the RSMU and its activities over the past three years.

The bursary allows me to continue my involvement and enthusiasm for the Royal School of Mines Union and its Department Societies into my fourth year. I am immensely grateful to the RSMA for their generosity."

Jasmine Crocker: Earth Science and Engineering

Jasmine Crocker is President of the Royal School of Mines Union. She has held this role for two years and previously held the position of Regalia Officer before this.

Jasmine commented: ‘I am delighted to be a recipient of an RSMA 100 Club Bursary Prize and am very grateful to the committee for recognising my dedication to our RSM community

Alongside student representation, I have truly enjoyed playing for RSM Tennis and Netball at Bottle Match, plus contributing to the organisation of two RSM-CSM sports varsities in 2022.

The £1000 bursary prize has enabled me to continue dedicating as much time and energy to my involvement in the RSMU and less on an alternate source of income to fund life in London as well as two geological field trips that will benefit my studies."

Jessica Dring Morris: Materials 

Jessica Dring Morris held the post of Vice-President of the Royal School of Mines Union in 2020/21. Before being Vice-President, she has held the positions of Publicity Officer and Secretary for the Materials Society.

Jessica commented: "The award has given me the freedom to enjoy my final year, as well as giving me more time to focus on the Materials Society and my MEng project."

George Morgan: Materials

George Morgan currently holds the post of Departmental Academic Representative and Royal School of Mines Vice President (Education). He is also Royal School of Mines Rugby Football Club Vice Captain and Treasurer and ICURFC Honorary Secretary. Previously George held the position of Year Academic Representative and ICURFC Transport Secretary in his second year and Materials Year Academic Representative and MatSoc Vice President in his third year.

George commented: "I was delighted to hear the news that I had been awarded this bursary for my contribution to the RSM. I am extremely grateful for the award, and it is a great opportunity for students within the RSM!

During my time at Imperial and in the RSM, I’ve had a fantastic experience partaking in various extra-curricular activities. This has certainly been a highlight of my university experience. This award encourages students to get stuck in and is a very generous reward for doing so."

James Wood: Earth Science and Engineering 

James Wood has been a part of the Geology Society Committee for the past three years, in the positions of Symposium Officer, Secretary and Industrial Liason Officer. Within the RSMU, he is noted for setting up the RSM Tennis Club. He has also held the role of ESE Academic Departmental Representative for the past two years.

James commented: "I'm delighted about receiving the RSMA 100 Club Bursary Prize, and it has allowed me to purchase a new laptop to be better equipped for mixed-mode teaching this year. I'm very grateful to the RSMA for the award of the prize."
