New scholarship donation to support a Mechanical Engineering student
A donation from Trigon Fire Safety Ltd has created a new £50,000 scholarship fund in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at Imperial.
The scholarship will be available to one female undergraduate student and will provide a stipend for living expenses for the duration of their studies. The funding will open for applications in the academic year 2022-23.
Professor Guillermo Rein (Hazelab group) and the Advancement Team at Imperial College London have worked with Trigon Fire Safety Ltd to widen access to engineering educational excellence.
“This donation from Trigon, a well-known London fire engineering firm, contributes in three ways to make a better world: it supports the mission of the Department to teach the next generation of mechanical engineers, it embraces the power of diversity to help society, and the scholarship recipient can focus on her journey to become a leader in engineering”, said Professor Guillermo Rein.
In relation to their generous donation, Trigon Fire Safety Ltd said: “The fire safety and building industry, as well as the wider engineering sector, requires excellent engineers from diverse background to solve tomorrow’s problems and challenges. This necessitates future generations to pursue engineering academia, but also often to overcome barriers such as living expenses.”
“With this unique scholarship opportunity, we hope to provide the necessary support for a female undergraduate to study Mechanical Engineering at Imperial College London. Our aspiration is that this can provide the student with an opportunity that may not have been possible without the scholarship. We are hopeful that this will also encourage other young engineers to explore a future in Fire Safety Engineering. The team of Imperial College London have provided Trigon with excellent support, from discussing the initial idea, throughout planning and up to final implementation.”
Trigon is an independent fire engineering consultancy founded by three Chartered Engineers, registered with the Institution of Fire Engineers. The Trigon team specialises in solving unique fire safety challenges for all building types and uses.
