The Imperial College Centre of Excellence in Neurotechnology hosted its 8th Annual Research Symposium at Imperial College on 5th July 2022.

Hosted in-person for the first time since 2019, Imperial Neurotechnology offered attendees a day of talks and poster presentations showcasing cutting-edge neurotech research.  The event highlighted the talents of presenters from all career stages from Masters through to Professor, with speakers hailing from Imperial and beyond.

In two sessions of varied talks, attendees learned about research addressing such topics as assimilation and integration of memories, gene regulation in Alzheimer’s Disease, innovative robotic techniques to study neuronal circuits, the role of neural oscillation in human behaviour in relation to EEG data, how astrocytes process sound stimuli in the brain, and ways in which brain stimulation can improve brain health.

A selection of student posters, presented during a buzzing lunchtime poster session, highlighted some of the varied and fascinating work being carried out in the neurotech area at Imperial.

Congratulations go to our two poster prize-winners, Natalia Torres-Consul and Danielle Kurtin who were awarded first and second prize respectively for their posters: Cortico-striatal contributions to skilled forelimb movements and Information theoretic metrics capture differences in brain state dynamics across tasks

Following the talk sessions, we were lucky enough to be joined by five Imperial alumni for a special “meet the alumni” student careers session.  Student attendees spent a convivial hour engaged in lively small group discussions with the five guest alumni about their career paths.  The attendees clearly enjoyed the session and got a lot out of meeting our guests.

The day was topped off with a well-deserved drinks reception where attendees had the opportunity to cool down after the summer day’s heat, rest their grey matter, and network with colleagues old and new.

We would like to extend our warm thanks to our wonderful speakers, poster presenters and guest alumni who made the day such a success.
