Josh wins a poster prize

by Anna Barnard

Josh Tomkins has won a poster prize at this year's Postgraduate Symposium

Joshua Tomkins, a 2nd Year PhD student in the Barnard, Speck and Barr groups has won first prize for his poster in the Chemical Biology and Healthcare section of the Department of Chemistry Postgraduate Symposium.

Josh presented his work targeting DNA replication as a novel mechanism to target cancer. He has been working on making peptide based mimics of the protein geminin which is known to inhibit DNA replication. Healthy cells can tolerate the activity of geminin where cancer cells cannot meaning that this method has the potential to ultimately provide cancer treatments with fewer side effects.

Congratulations Josh!
