Undergraduate student, Alex Hook, wins scholarship to learn the art of solo gliding.

Aeronautics student Alex Hook has been soaring through the skies after receiving the 2022 Robert Kronfeld Gliding Scholarship, awarded by the Air League.

As a scholarship recipient, Alex has been able to further his understanding of gliding and theory through opportunities of solo flight in and around the Lasham Airfield, Hampshire.

2022 Air League scholars were invited to a presentation evening at the Royal Aeronautical Society, where they received their certificates from Sir Christopher Harper, President of the Air League.

On the scholarship win Alex said: "I was delighted to have been awarded this prestigious Scholarship with The Air League. It has allowed me to develop my flying skills and interest in a hobby I love."

The opportunity and experience has provided Alex with better understanding and appreciation of his current studies, in particular flight dynamics.

Alex was inspired to apply for Air League’s scholarship programme after attending an event by Imperial College Pilots’ Club and learning about the various Aviation scholarships available to students.Alex Hook in plane on runway

The Air League’s Scholarship Programme aims to inspire, equip and help young people to break into careers within the aviation, aerospace and space sectors.

Beyond gliding scholarships are also offered for flying, drones and engineering.
