Postdoctoral researcher wins prestigious journal accolade
Domènec Ruiz-Balet, a postdoctoral research at Imperial, has won the Karl-Peter Hadeler Prize of the Journal of Mathematical Biology.
Domènec Ruiz Balet, from the Department of Mathematics at Imperial, and Idriss Mazari from Paris Dauphine University have been awarded the 2022 Karl-Peter Hadeler Prize. The prize is awarded by the Journal of Mathematical Biology for the best article of the year in the journal.
The European Society for Mathematical and Theoretical Biology (ESMTB) Award Committee unanimously recommend their article titled, 'Spatial ecology, optimal control and game theoretical fishing problems,' for the prestigious prize.
The mathematical results presented in this article addressed a long-standing ecological problem – the over-harvesting of natural resources. The young researchers examined whether two actors competing for the same pool of resources could find a sustainable equilibrium.
Both researchers have been also invited to give a talk about this paper at the European Society for Mathematical and Theoretical Biology in a colloquium on Biomathematics. The talk will take place by the end of March.
