Engineering student exhibiting artwork in Blyth Gallery
Mechanical Engineering student Annette Kong is one of two artists showing work as part of the Blyth Art Fellowship exhibition 2023.
The exhibition is on display in the Blyth Gallery at Imperial (Sherfield Building in the South Kensington Campus) until 15 September. The other participating artist is Medicine student Alexander Conway.
Annette Kong was awarded the Blyth Art Fellowship in her third year as a Mechanical Engineering student. The exhibition includes drawings as well as paintings in acrylic and oil, the latter being a technique that Annette began to explore as part of the fellowship opportunity.
Annette’s paintings “take advantage of layering to reconstruct and rework with varying texture and opacity, whereas her drawings begin with loose gestures, experimenting with balancing structure and fluidity”. A more detailed catalogue describing the work is available in the exhibition space.
The exhibition is curated by Mindy Lee, Head of Art at the Blyth Music and Arts Centre.
The Blyth Art Fellowship is an annual Blyth Centre award to support current Imperial students who show outstanding creative talent. Amongst other benefits, it offers financial support for art materials and bespoke mentoring with professional artists.
