Families visiting the Data Observatory for bring your child to work day

Families from the Faculty of Engineering transported themselves across Earth and even to Mars in a visit to the DSI’s Data Observatory.

More than 100 children and grown-ups took part in the Faculty of Engineering’s Bring Your Child to Work Day on Thursday 27 July 2023.

As part of the festivities, the Data Science Institute opened its doors to two groups, with sessions led by Systems Engineer in Large Scale Data Visualisation Brython Caley-Davies and Communications Officer Gemma Ralton.

Families visit the Data Observatory for Bring Your Child To Work Day

Throughout the sessions, families were able to explore the Data Observatory – an innovative, immersive environment used by academics and industry to visualise data to uncover new insights.

On the 64 screens, the groups were able to explore large-scale maps of cities across the globe and immersed themselves in high-resolution images of landscapes across Earth and Mars.
