Imperial seeks 11 new fellows in artificial intelligence
Eleven new fellowship opportunities to be at the forefront of Imperial College AI research.
The I-X Centre for AI in Science is supporting eleven new fellows to join their prestigious programme and accelerate AI research in science, engineering, and mathematics. The new fellows will join a unique cohort of top scholars at Imperial’s home for interdisciplinary research in artificial intelligence, I-X. Underpinned by core support from Schmidt Futures and based at Imperial’s innovative White City campus, applicants will have the opportunity to work alongside top AI researchers from across the College’s faculties and departments.
The new centre exploits both the possibilities offered by modern AI, and speeds their evolution. By harnessing I-X as the site of synergy and focus, and the resources of both Schmidt Futures and Imperial College, it offers a unique environment for the fellows to join a co-located programme and thrive in a career using AI to advance science.
AI Fellowships
"These fellowships make that future happen by giving accomplished individuals an opportunity to develop their own programmes of research and join a co-located cohort themed around AI” Prof Nick Jones Centre Director
With eleven new opportunities available, the fellowships offer to substantially advance a particular area of science and acquire new expertise in artificial intelligence applied to a core discipline. Potential applicants should keep in mind that a deep knowledge of AI is not a precondition, only an appreciation of the need for AI and a willingness for skill acquisition in AI.
Prof Nick Jones, Centre Director for the I-X AI in Science Centre said: “AI offers Science immense opportunities: these fellowships make that future happen by giving accomplished individuals an opportunity to develop their own programmes of research and join a co-located cohort themed around AI”
The fellowships are divided into two main categories: Three 4-Year independent fellowships in AI in Science, Imperial College Research Fellowships, Supported by Schmidt Futures (closing soon, 21 August) and Eight 2-Year fellowships in AI in Science Eric and Wendy Schmidt AI in Science Postdoctoral Fellowships (closing 28 September).
These prestigious fellowships are flexible and independent, allowing recipients to freely explore while drawing on expert faculty mentors of their choice. The fellows will join the wider network of Schmidt Futures supported fellows and attend yearly Schmidt Futures AI in Science meetings. They will also be given bespoke training and will benefit from an Advanced Courses in AI Hub, pre-acceleration training material, appointment-specific faculty interview preparation and grant writing courses with support from a dedicated Senior Teaching Fellow and career development consultant.
Speaking of the fellowship, Schmidt Fellow, Gema Vera Gonzalez said: “For me, it was the first time applying for a fellowship, but I found the process quick and straightforward. To be honest, I didn’t think I had a chance and so I would say to anyone considering applying, that even if you think you may not get it, just go for it anyway - I’m so happy I did.”
Eleven fellowship opportunities are now live on the new I-X Centre for AI in Science website.
