Imperial has launched a new scholarship programme for Lebanese Master’s students, supported by French shipping and logistics company CMA CGM Group.

The new scholarship programme will help to build a pathway for the next generation of Lebanese leaders to gain international study experience and to play key roles in the future development of Lebanon.

It will help fund 18 Master’s scholars from Lebanon over the next three years. The scholarships will be open to Lebanese nationals that need funding support, studying on any Master’s of science or research programmes, and will start in 2024/25. The scholarships will fully cover tuition fees and will contribute towards the student’s living costs.

The new scholarship programme was announced at the Lebanese Embassy

Vice Provost (Research and Enterprise) Professor Mary Ryan said: “At Imperial we recognise that talent and excellence are found everywhere, whereas opportunity is not. This new scholarship programme will enable us to take the very best students and support the next generation of leaders from Lebanon to develop their ideas at one of the world’s top universities. We are extremely grateful for CMA CGM’s generous financial support as well as their leadership in recognising the value of international collaboration and education for future generations.”

CMA CGM created the Excellence Fund for Lebanon in 2021 to champion educational success through various scholarships for Lebanese students at leading Lebanese and international universities.

The company – which also signed agreements with the University of Oxford and King’s College London – launched the new scholarship programme at the Lebanese Embassy, hosted by the Lebanese Ambassador, Rami Mortada. The three universities look forward to working together to deliver benefits to the scholars.

Rodolphe Saadé, Chairman and CEO of the CMA CGM Group: “I am very pleased to have signed this partnership with Imperial College London, the University of Oxford and King’s College London. These Lebanese students will now be able to pursue their studies in major international universities as part of the CMA CGM Excellence Fund for Lebanon.”
