Celebrating 2023 Prize Winners in the Department of Materials
On Commemoration Day, we celebrated our undergraduate and postgraduate student prize winners.
Commemoration Day was held on Wednesday 18 October this year, and it provided the opportunity to celebrate our 2023 prize winners.
These prizes recognise our students' hard work and dedication throughout their degree.
Undergraduate Prize Winners

Armourers & Brasiers Company Award is a prize awarded to students for being one of the outstanding performances in the final year of a MEng programme. - Yash Dwivedi: Charles Salter Prize
The Charles Salter Prize is an annual award for excellence in Metallurgy to a student completing his/her finals in this subject. - Berenice Bulteel: Ernest Edward Glorney Scholarship - MMAT
The Ernest Edward Glorney Scholarship is an annual award that recognises excellence. It is awarded to an undergraduate student completing their final year examinations in Materials. The scholarship may be used to study for another year at the college or to obtain practical training. - Yee Lin Tan: Governors' BEng Prize in Materials
- Amandine Kara: Governors' MEng Prize in Materials
The Governors' BEng Prize in Materials is an annual award to an outstanding student in the final undergraduate year of the BEng or MEng course. - Pooja Rohatgi: Materials Student Centenary Prize
The Materials Student Centenary Prize is an annual award that recognises a fourth year undergraduate student who is adjudged to have completed the best MEng Placement Project. - Kenan Gnonhoue Dokonon - Peter Pratt Memorial Prize
The Peter Pratt Memorial Prize is an annual award that recognises an undergraduate student from the Department of Materials who produces the best final-year project. - Archana Prasad - The Emma Warriss Undergraduate Student Prize
The Emma Warriss Undergraduate Student Prize is an annual award that recognises an undergraduate student in the Department of Materials who has been key to establishing a fun and cohesive environment within the Department. - Arushee Kadam - Institute of Materials Prize
The Institute of Materials Prize is an annual award to a final-year student in the Department of Materials for performance during the whole of their undergraduate course. - Yulia Yu - Final MEng Student Prize - Excellence in Responsibility for Sustainable Research
The Final MEng Student Prize is an annual prize that recognises a student who is able to show sustainable behaviour and practice in their research project on the MEng Materials Science and Engineering course.

This award recognises Excellence in Responsibility for Sustainable Research on the MSc Advanced Materials Science and Engineering course.
PhD Prize Winners

The Constance Fligg Tipper Centenary Memorial Prize is an annual award to recognise a PhD student who has demonstrated the most industry and independence in research with outstanding contributions to Materials Science and Engineering. - Christopher Adrianus: The Larry Hench Biomaterials Prize
The Larry Hench Biomaterials Prize is an annual award to recognise PhD excellence in a biomaterials-related subject. - Qian Li: McLean Medal
The McLean Medal is an annual award to recognise a PhD student with the best accepted or published journal paper. - Rowan Hedgecock: Tony Evans Memorial Prize
The Tony Evans Memorial Prize is an annual award to recognise the PhD student with the best PhD Thesis in the ceramics discipline, as determined by the Director of the Structural Ceramics Centre based on the examiners’ report.
