Professor Aimee Morgans wins Learned Society of Wales Menelaus medal
Professor Aimee Morgans from the Department of Mechanical Engineering received the Menelaus medal from the Learned Society of Wales.
The Medal is awarded for excellence in any field of engineering and technology to an academic, to an industrial researcher, or to an industrial practitioner who has a connection with Wales. The Society announced its 2023 medallists at a ceremony on 26th October.
Aimee Morgans grew up and was educated in Newport, and she is the first woman to become a Professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at Imperial. Her research on sound and fluid dynamics is aimed at making energy generation and transport more environmentally friendly, and on mitigating the effect of climate extremes.
Professor Morgans said: “I am delighted with the award of the Menelaus medal, which recognises the work of my research group in developing openly available software for predicting thermoacoustic instability, a key barrier to low emissions gas turbines and stable rocket engines.”
The Learned Society is Wales’ National Academy, bringing together nearly 700 renowned experts in arts and science research from Wales and beyond.
