Final year undergraduates are asked to rate their experience at Imperial as the 2024 National Student Survey opens for responses.

The Survey, which is open until 30 April 2024, invites students to assess the College on areas such as academic support, learning resources and assessment and feedback.

Acting on feedback

Professor Peter HaynesProfessor Peter Haynes, Vice-Provost (Education and Student Experience), said:

"Final year undergraduates have a unique perspective of their time at Imperial, and we want to hear from as many of them as possible so we can improve the experience of all our students. Every year the NSS gives our students this opportunity by surveying students at UK universities.

"Last year 73% of eligible students completed the NSS, a figure we hope to beat this year. The more students take part, the more representative the outcome is."

Some actions Imperial has taken in response to previous surveys include:

  • The university and the Students' Union closely collaborating on creating joint action plans to deliver and track improvements identified by students in previous Surveys.
  • Partnering with students to start a review of their workloads relating to assessment and feedback.
  • A greater number of students have joined as members of a range of important committees at the College. This means students are influencing key decisions in a range of areas impacting the day-to-day student experience at Imperial.
  • Working closely with students to significantly improve a wide variety of spaces across our campuses. In recent months we have opened Student Space on Level 3 of the Sherfield Building at South Kensington Campus, updated facilities at the Harlington Sports Grounds, and the refurbished student social spaces at the Reynolds Building at Charing Cross.
  • Closely collaborating with students to develop the Mental Health and Wellbeing Strategy.

Reflecting the student perspective

Camille BoutrolleCamille Boutrolle, President at the Imperial College Union said:

"Past surveys answered by previous cohorts have helped shape the student experience in the here and now. Imperial’s highly positive NSS results (a c. 84% rate of student satisfaction since 2020) have strengthened the university and Union's reputation and encouraged a wider variety of applicants to consider joining our community for study, and getting involved in the Union. We were also pleased to see that Imperial secured a Gold Award in the five-year Teaching Excellence Framework this year, partially based on past NSS results and significant investment that the Union has made the case for on students' behalf."

Have your say

Eligible students can complete the survey on the NSS website from 8 January until 30 April 2024.
