Chemical Engineering Research Associate wins prestigious prize
Researcher recognised for contributions to the field of engineering.
Dr Nausheen Basha, Research Associate in the Department of Chemical Engineering, has been awarded the prestigious '2022 Most Distinguished Developing Career Achievement Prize' by the Institution of Mechanical Engineers (IMechE).
This award recognises emerging engineers demonstrating innovative and responsible professional leadership, along with a commitment to future excellence and service to others.
With a focus on computational fluid dynamics (CFD), multiphase flows, machine learning (ML), and the process industry (PI), Dr Basha's contributions have earned her multiple recognition, including being named one of the Top 50 Women in Engineering (Inventors & Innovators) by the Women's Engineering Society (WES).
Her multiple publications in CFD, ML, and PI showcase the depth of her expertise. Notably, her impactful PhD research on computational fluid dynamics modelling of oil-injected compressors received acclaim from the Institute of Refrigeration (IOR).
In 2021, Dr Basha received the Ted Perry Award for her practical research contributions. Her work on developing air compressors at City, University of London, played a crucial role in supplying oxygen cylinders during the COVID-19 pandemic in India.
Currently engaged in researching the data-driven optimisation of mixing reactors within the PREMIERE project, Dr Basha actively contributes to the Data Driven Modelling Special Interest Group.
Beyond her research, she strives to inspire young women and minority groups to pursue STEM subjects, demonstrated by her involvement in organising Nuffield Research Placements and work shadowing programs, providing students with invaluable first-hand experiences in engineering careers.
