Horizons student wins FoNS creative writing contest
Daniel Hesk scooped first prize in the Future of Education Short Story Competition
The Faculty of Natural Sciences' short story competition reached its conclusion this month, with three prizes awarded for short works of fiction.
The contest, which opened in the Autumn, invited FoNS staff, students and alumni to submit a story about what education will look like in 2045 in the Faculty of Natural Sciences. In support of the competition, CLCC colleagues collaborated in running a workshop in October focused on the challenges of writing short fiction.
Competition entries, which could be up to 1500 words, were judged anonymously with the winners announced at a showcase and reception earlier this month.
Taking first prize was Horizons student Daniel Hesk, who is taking Creative Writing for I-Explore in his 2nd Year. The runners up were alumna Hannah Mullin and alumnus Sam Lovatt.
Daniel's winning story will be published in print by Tamarind literary magazine in their next print issue. The story is now available to read online.
