What is an assessment centre?
A typical assessment centre involves a range of activities intended to give an employer an insight into how you work, think and would respond to a variety of situations. They are used by organisations (normally larger ones) during their recruitment process for internships or graduate roles. An assessment centre can last anywhere from a couple of hours to two full days and can take place online or in-person.

Top tips for success
Before:
• Read the invitation carefully as it often tells you what to expect and the activities involved
• Revisit the job description before the event to identify what skills they are looking for and reread your application and CV
• Research the organisation so you know as much as possible about them and monitor their social media for any recent news
During:
• Listen carefully and get involved in activities
• Be friendly, polite and professional but remember to stay assertive
• Do not worry about other candidates and their actions but focus on trying to make a good impression
After:
• Hopefully you will be celebrating an offer of employment but if you are rejected do not be afraid to ask for feedback on your performance to help you in the future
More helpful tips can be found on our Assessment centres webpage.
