Various Tate group members including MRes Drug Discovery, Ph.D students, and Postdocs attended the 8th RSC-BMCS Symposium in Burlington House, London.

This conference is part of an ongoing series of conferences intended to provide expert advice and guidance into the field of drug discovery. Hosted by the RSC in their London headquarters at Burlington house. The day was filled with various guest lectures and case-studies regarding medicinal chemistry and drug discovery. This included presentations from experienced ‘drug-hunters’ in both academia and industry, including: Charles River, Pfizer, AstraZeneca, and GSK.

Whilst there, the Tate group’s very own research Associate Dr Janine Gray, delivered a talk on her research of “Novel inhibitors of efflux pump NorA to target antimicrobial resistance." This is after her previous oral presentation prize win at the previous BMCS symposium.

My personal experience Lydia Papagora:

RSC Mastering Medchem conference was a fascinating experience. As a young researcher, I had the opportunity to hear great talks, about the current trends in drug discovery and development, as well as the difficulties some of the speakers faced before maximizing the potentials of their projects. In addition to this, being in the RSC building at Burlington House was quite special for me, considering its historical importance. The unique collection of science books and exhibits further shape a vibrant environment.

The conference was very engaging with an exceptional line up of speakers and talks. There was a good coverage of topics and the case studies were enlightening examples of the application of medicinal chemistry tools. I am inspired and look forward to implementing the lessons I took from Mastering Medicinal Chemistry in my own work.
