Life can be very challenging at times, which is why Imperial has various support channels in place to help staff and students. The Health and Wellbeing webpages outline the support in place for members of staff and the Student Counselling and Mental Health Advice Service can help students who are struggling. Their highly experienced team (consisting of counsellors, mental health advisors, mental health study mentors and mental health intervention officers) provide a safe and compassionate space to support those who are experiencing difficulties.
If you are a student or recent graduate and are feeling anxious about your career, the Careers Service is here to support and help you reach your career goals! You don’t need to know what you want to do to benefit from our services as your career plans will develop and change over time but we’d encourage you to view our range of online resources and publications, workshops, presentations, employer events and one to one appointments. You can also sign up to our newsletter to get a weekly update on what’s on.
Furthermore, to be confident in discussing mental health with an employer, you can start research into whether they are genuinely inclusive. You can explore the ways to do this on the careers and disability webpage and also in our finding inclusive employers video.
You can also explore the sorts of adjustments you can request in both the recruitment process and the workplace in the AGCAS Explaining your mental health condition resource. To help you with this process, you can discuss any of these points with a Careers Consultant by booking a careers discussion through JobsLive.
