The 2024 postgraduate research prizes have been announced in the Department of Materials.
PhD Prize Winners
Muzi Chen: Matthey Prize
Muzi Chen has been awarded the Matthey Prize. The prize is awarded to an Associate of the Royal School of Mines for research completed in the Department of Materials.
Bingxin Li: The TYC@Imperial prize
Bingxin Li has been awarded the TYC@Imperial prize. The prize recognises a student who has demonstrated the most important and innovative contribution to research in the Theory and Simulation of Materials.
Dong Kuk Kim: McLean Medal
Dong Kuk Kim has been awarded the McLean Medal. The prize recognises the postgraduate student with the best accepted or published journal paper.
Angus Pedersen: John Kilner Prize for Energy Materials
Angus Pedersen has been awarded the John Kilner Prize for Energy Materials. The prize recognises excellence in a PhD study in any subject related to materials for application in energy conversion systems.
Demetris Soukeras: Constance Fligg Tipper Centenary Memorial Prize
Demetris Soukeras has been awarded the Constance Fligg Tipper Centenary Memorial Prize. The prize recognises a completing PhD student showing most industry and independence in research with outstanding contributions to Materials Science and Engineering.
Daisy Thornton: Prize in Advanced Materials Characterisation Techniques
Daisy Thornton has been awarded the Prize in Advanced Materials Characterisation Techniques. The prize recognises the best postgraduate research student using advanced materials characterisation techniques leading to a higher degree; the prize to be awarded at the end of postgraduate study.
Victoria Vilchez: Tony Evans Memorial Prize
Victoria Vilchez has been awarded the Tony Evans Memorial Prize. The prize recognises a student with the best PhD Thesis in the ceramics discipline, as determined by the Director of the Structural Ceramics Centre based on the examiners’ report.
Jiamin Xu: The Larry Hench Biomaterials Prize
Jiamin Xu has been awarded The Larry Hench Biomaterials Prize. The prize recognises excellence in a PhD in a Biomaterials-related subject.
MSc Prize Winners
Harsh Gupta: William Penney Prize
Harsh Gupta has been awarded the William Penney Prize. The William Penney Prize recognises the Best Project on the MSc Advanced Materials Science and Engineering course.
Ally Hsia: William Penney Prize
Ally Hsia has been awarded the William Penney Prize for Best Energy Theme Project on the MSc Advanced Materials Science and Engineering course.
Haoyue Liang: William Penney Prize
Haoyue Liang has been awarded the William Penney Prize for the Second Best Project on the MSc Advanced Materials Science and Engineering course.
Mariana Palos: Excellence in Responsibility for Sustainable Research
Mariana Palos has been recognised for Excellence in Responsibility for Sustainable Research on the MSc Advanced Materials Science and Engineering course.
