Department of Chemistry Welcomes Canadian Exchange Student
Meet Joey, the Department of Chemistry's new exchange student from Western University in Canada.
The Crimmin group welcomes Canadian exchange student Joseph (Joey) Zurakowski to Imperial for the summer. Joey comes to us from the group of Professor Marcus Drover at Western University in Canada. He will be collaborating with a fellow PhD student in the Crimmin group on heterobimetallic complexes for C–H activation. Joey is thrilled to be in the UK and plans to make the most of this exchange opportunity both inside and out of the laboratory.
“I’ve been looking forward to this exchange and joining the Crimmin group for over 6 months – it’s so nice to finally be here! Everyone at Imperial has been super helpful in getting me settled. I’m excited to accomplish some collaborative chemistry with Professors Crimmin and Drover, and of course I’m going to make the most out of living in London for the summer!” – Joey Zurakowski.
“We are absolutely delighted to have Joey join the lab and look forward to working with him. These types of placements are essential as they not only bring new ideas and energy to the research, but can also make a tangible difference in the training and development of early-career scientists.” – Mark Crimmin.
“I am thrilled to see Joey being recognized for their exceptional research work and granted this opportunity to collaborate with Prof. Mark Crimmin’s group at Imperial College. This experience will undoubtedly enrich their academic journey and contribute significantly to the field of catalyst design for small-molecule upgrading.” – Marcus Drover.
Joey joins the Crimmin group with a Michael Smith Foreign Study Supplement (Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada) as well as a Mitacs Globalink Research Award.
