FASEB Conference Poster Prize

by Edward Bartlett

Dr Jana Volaric was awarded a poster presentation prize at a recent FASEB meeting

Several members of the Tate group attended the bi-annual Protein Lipidation: Enzymology, Signaling, Therapeutics FASEB conference in Tucson, Arizona. The conference brings together scientists from all over the world who study protein lipidation to meet and discuss new ideas and form collaborations. This year’s program focused on a variety of disciplines such as mechanisms and consequences of acylation, prenylation, and post-prenylation processing of proteins, as well as the synthesis and transport of intracellular lipids. The conference focused on fundamental protein lipidation topics, including biochemistry, biophysics, and cell biology. Presenters explored secreted lipidated proteins, GPI-anchored proteins, biophysical aspects of membrane dynamics, and the pathogenesis and treatment of lipid storage disorders, cancer, progeria, and other diseases.

Prof. Tate gave the Richard Gibbs lecture on development of probes for protein lipidation and drug discovery. Several group members presented their work at the conference, Wouter Kallemeijn was selected for a short talk, while Jana Volaric and Vincent Saverat presented 5 min research snapshots to highlight their posters.

Jana Volaric won the poster prize for her project on photocontrolled ZDHHC-specific S-acylation which is supported by the Rubicon Fellowship from the Dutch Research Council.
