An Imperial panel is inviting suggestions for innovative environmental sustainability startups to nominate for the £1 million prize.
The Earthshot Prize is a global environment prize that aims to discover, celebrate and scale solutions to help repair our planet.
Imperial and other Official Nominators from around the world will submit nominations to the Earthshot Prize Council, which will then select five winners.
The Imperial panel will be nominating startup companies whose solutions make the most progress towards achieving the five Earthshots – simple but ambitious goals that if achieved by 2030 will improve life for us all:
- Protect and Restore Nature
- Clean our Air
- Revive our Oceans
- Build a Waste-Free World
- Fix our Climate
The Earthshot Prize will consider solutions that are beyond idea stage, have been in-field or with target audiences, and are at a ‘tipping point’ for scaling within the next five years. More information about what the prize looks for in its nominees is available in the 2023 Roadmap.
Finalists and Winners are given a platform to publicise their work, and tailored support from the Earthshot Prize and its network of NGOs, businesses, governments, funders and expert mentors. The five Winners also receive a £1 million grant.
Past winners include Notpla, an Imperial student startup that won the Earthshot Prize in 2022 for its biodegradable alternative to plastic and has recently raised a further £20 million from investors.
Imperial's nominations
Imperial's panel is looking for startup companies from Imperial’s entrepreneurial community and further afield to consider for its nominations.
These may include startups founded by Imperial staff, students and alumni and from Imperial entrepreneurship programmes – although no connection to the university is required.
Startups selected by Imperial in this first stage of the process will be invited to provide more information as part of an assessment process that will culminate in the selection of five winners by Prince William and the Earthshot Prize Council.
