Former ChemEng student

Barnabas Agbodekhe, Masters in Advanced Chemical Engineering, Class of 2020

We had an impromptu catch-up at this year's AIChE conference with our MSc in Advanced Chemical Engineering Class of 2020 student, Barnabus Agbodekhe.

"My time studying at Imperial’s Department of Chemical Engineering as a master's student was highly impactful.

The final research project with Dr Marcos Millan-Agorio prepared me for advanced research, allowing me to design research questions and deeply pursue the answers to those questions.

This helped tremendously with achieving my next step, a PhD at the University of Notre Dame, where I work with Prof Edward J. Maginn, who has links and collaborations with senior academics at Imperial’s Chemical Engineering Molecular Systems Engineering (MSE) research hub of the Sargent Centre.

I was recently awarded the Microsoft Azure cloud computing prize for best overall poster at the 2024 Foundation of Molecular Modelling and Simulation (FOMMS) triennial conference. My time with the Department of Chemical Engineering helped prepare me tremendously for this achievement.

I was personally inspired by several professors, especially Prof Claire Adjiman, who taught me the Advanced Process Optimization (APO) module. I have applied some of the concepts from this module in my PhD research.

As a place to study, London is a very culturally rich city. I gained a lot of exposure as an international student from Nigeria and made many diverse connections, which I maintain to date."
