Call for early career researchers to develop healthy and resilient societies

by Stephen Johns

Imperial has launched a call for the next wave of talented researchers to join the European Talent Academy 2025.

The theme for next year’s programme is ‘Water and Food for Resilient and Healthy Societies’.

The European Talent Academy was launched in 2020 as part of a strategic partnership with Germany’s Technical University of Munich but has since expanded to include Italy’s Poli Milano.

The programme supports early career researchers from the three universities to expand their international networks, build on their collaborative research skills, and develop proposals for further research collaboration, with a focus on Horizon Europe projects.

The theme for 2024 was Climate, energy and mobility for a Sustainable Society and saw several workshops and training sessions take place in London, Munich and Milan.

Catalyst to success

The European Talent Academy has already helped to build new international research collaborations that have successfully gained funding, published papers and started joint projects.

Two of the groups formed during the 2024 programme have already successfully applied for the Imperial Horizon Europe Connect Fund grants and are now on the road to scale up their projects.

Of the groups formed from the 2023 programme, 80% have gone on to submit collaborative proposals for funding.

More than 60% of the groups formed during the Talent Academy have shared data, resources and equipment. Two groups are currently publishing or have published a paper, and three others are writing proposals for conferences.

One of the participants of a previous programme, Dr Sophie Morse from the Department of Bioengineering said: “I think the European Talent Academy is fantastic and it’s helped me expand my network to Europe in a way I couldn’t have done otherwise and couldn’t be more positive about the opportunities that this fellowship has given me.”
