Prepare with Shortlist.Me!

Today, more and more organisations are using video interviews as a part of their hiring process.

There are two types of video interviews, real-time and recorded. The former is much the same as an in-person interview, simply taking place through a video conference platform such as Zoom or MS Teams. Recorded video interviews, however, are a more unique form of assessment which grew in popularity during the Covid pandemic. They involve the candidate recording themselves answering pre-set questions and sending this off to be reviewed by the recruitment team. Many students dislike this interview format as they feel awkward or uncomfortable speaking to a camera rather than to a person which is where Shortlist.Me comes in.

As Imperial students, you have access to the Shortlist.Me platform, an online coaching hub for video interviews. You can use this service to record yourself answering popular interview questions, watch your answers back and get useful tips on what employers are looking for. How to access Shortlist.Me

1. Visit the Shortlister Imperial homepage to explore a variety of practice video interviews.
2. Register for an interview using your @imperial.ac.uk email address and accept the Shortlist.Me Privacy Notice to use the system.
3. Once registered, you will receive an email containing instructions and a unique web link for your practice interview.
4. Your answers will be recorded so you can watch them back and use the self-reflection tool to appraise your performance. Please note that your answers will be accessible to the Careers Service but we will not review your response without prior consent.
5. After completing the interview, you will receive a link to your recorded answers which you can view and/or share with others if you choose.
