The Imperial community is being invited to take part in the university's Sustainability Fortnight from 24 February – 7 March 2025.
Staff and students will have the opportunity to join exciting workshops and interactive events and find out what the university is doing to reduce its own environmental impacts and how to get involved.
Sustainability Fortnight is a great reminder of the year-round opportunities everyone in the Imperial community has to contribute to our goals, and set a truly global standard for university sustainability. Harriet Wallace Director of Sustainability
Organised by the central Sustainability Hub and Imperial College Union, this year’s Sustainability Fortnight centres on the themes of Arts & Culture, Climate Justice, Sustainable Consumption, and Nature & Wellbeing.
Highlights include gardening sessions, quizzes, sustainability fairs and the London Student Sustainability Conference.

Join the Property Division (Head Gardener Lucy & Move Imperial) to support the gardening and greening projects on campus. All equipment will be provided at the session – don't worry if you are new to gardening, guidance will be given. The sessions are drop-in so if you can only come for half an hour your support would still be greatly appreciated. These sessions are open to all Imperial students and staff.
Sustainable lab tours on South Kensington and White City campuses
Want to begin your sustainable lab journey but not sure where to start or need some advice? Join your fellow lab teams for a tour of their sustainability initiatives and hear their experiences and tips on how you can get Laboratory Efficiency Assessment Framework (LEAF) accredited. Check out the tours on offer including MSRH at White City and Chemical Engineering on South Kensington. Open to all Imperial staff.
Climate Café on Silwood Park campus
Climate cafés are spaces to host discussions about the climate crisis, our emotions and the actions we need to create change. By coming together as a community, we can find solace in shared experiences, learn from different perspectives, foster resilience and inspire action. Refreshments provided. Open to all Imperial students and staff.
Women in Sustainability Talk, South Kensington and online
Get ready for Women at Imperial week! Join our Women in Sustainability Talk and meet Dr Semra Bakkaloglu, Vale Gapsyte and Marta Koch from various departments across the university, who will be presenting their sustainability research and projects. Open to all Imperial students and staff.
Upcycling and Mending Workshops on South Kensington and White City campuses
Is your favourite shirt missing a button? Have you fallen out of love with an old pair of jeans? Join our upcycling and mending workshop where the Imperial Stitchers can assist you with making simple clothing repairs and modifications. Save money and help the planet by learning to mend rather than buying new. Bring along an item of clothing that you'd like to repair/revamp and the Stitchers will help you give it a go! Open to all Imperial students and staff.

Celebrating progress; highlighting the road ahead

Sustainability Fortnight is a key element of the Sustainable Imperial institution-wide strategy aiming to address the challenges of climate change, biodiversity loss and pollution.
Harriet Wallace, Director of Sustainability, says: “Sustainability Fortnight will be a celebration of the progress we have made as a community at Imperial so far, and a time to explore the road ahead on our journey to achieving net zero campuses – from the challenges we face, to the practical solutions we can apply to them.
“We can only reach our sustainability ambitions by working together, by harnessing our collective energy and ideas. Sustainability Fortnight is a great reminder of the year-round opportunities everyone in the Imperial community has to contribute to our goals, and set a truly global standard for university sustainability.”
