Formula Student Progress update - February 2025

by

We started the year with a bare spaceframe from Formula Student UK 2024 and an aging suspension setup.

The team got to work immediately after competition selecting the new engine and completing early stage concept designs in the summer 2024. In 2024 the team took delivery of the donor Kawasaki Ninja 400 and after a highly successful recruitment cycle at the beginning of Autumn term, work began on over 40 technical projects aiming towards designing and building the IFR-01 car.

Designs had been completed earlier than ever before with a showcase of the full car CAD mode in November. Key subsystems which are brand new for this year include a new drivetrain, fully bespoke low voltage electronics circuit, a new exhaust, new fuel system, new cooling system, a new steering system and an upgraded suspension set up, just to make a few. Manufacturing commenced throughout the winter, culminating with a hugely important week of welding at the IC advanced hackspace and a full car assembly. The IFR-01 came to life with the first fire up January 23rd and the team now looks ahead to a rigorous track testing schedule which will leave no stone unturned in the pursuit of FSUK 2025 success.

Dan Foster- Technical Director

Big thanks to our sponsor Accu!

At IFR, our goal is to build a competitive vehicle that pushes technological boundaries and leaves a lasting impact. None of this would be possible without the continued support of our partner, Accu. Their support in both delivering parts and financial sponsorship have played a crucial role in the development of our IFR-01 car, enabling our engineers to push boundaries and refine our designs faster than ever.

“The range of fasteners and the delivery times that our partner Accu Components offer us, allow our engineers to experiment with innovative designs and solutions, which allow us to grow as a team and expand our knowledge. They have played a key role in getting EV24 to where it is today” - Dan, Technical Director

“Accu Components have been an invaluable partner of IFR. As soon as we order any parts from Accu they are delivered before anyone even has to ask where they are! Everyone I've spoken to at the company has been incredibly helpful. We are extremely grateful for their support.” – Max, Head of Aerodynamics

“The outstanding range of available fasteners at Accu as well as their speed of delivery have proven critical in our efforts to rapidly iterate on the design of our high voltage electrical systems.” - Eunice, Head of Electronics

“High quality fasteners are particularly important, as they ensure that components stay in their place, preventing damage. They can also dramatically speed up maintenance, as they will align properly and are generally easier to work with. It is also easy to quickly source replacement components when needed.” - Chrisbec, Head of Drivetrain

We are incredibly grateful for Accu’s continued support. Their partnership allows IFR to keep innovating, improving, and striving for success in the FSUK 2025. Thank you, Accu, for being a key part of our journey!
