Imperial students presented their work at the annual conference for students, delivered by students.

On 26 February, the University of Westminster hosted the London Student Sustainability Conference (LSSC) 2025 in collaboration with 11 London-based universities including Imperial College London.

The hybrid event welcomed over 200 attendees from across London HE to listen and engage with over 55 student interdisciplinary research/projects related to the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

The conference involved an application process, with the top-scoring 24 students chosen to present their sustainability work, and a further 35 to have their academic posters displayed across the day. These can also be viewed in our online poster exhibition space: https://bit.ly/41j8XsM

To add to the student-led approach of the conference, LSSC hosted three student-run workshops across the day, on topics such as air pollution in London and upcycling waste fabric.

The conference gave a platform for students to collaborate around their work and interests in making the world a more sustainable place to live. LSSC25 culminated with a networking event where industry professionals joined to speak with students looking for opportunities.

“The London Student Sustainability Conference, hosted at the University of Westminster last month was a huge success. It was a great opportunity for students around London to showcase their work and commitment to sustainability. Our shared dedication to the SDGs highlights the importance of shared collaboration and partnership between universities. We hope our students were able to learn from one another, to create a more sustainable future.” - Professor Peter Bonfield, Vice Chancellor, University of Westminster

Founded by City St George’s, University of London in 2019 to provide an opportunity for students from across London to share their sustainability research and extra-curricular projects, the event has rapidly expanded every year since.

LSSC25 was an impressive collaboration between 11 London universities: City St George’s, University of London, Imperial College London, King’s College London, Kingston University London, London School of Economics, London South Bank University, Queen Mary University of London, University of Greenwich, University of London, University of Roehampton and University of Westminster.

The conference was an opportunity to demonstrate our shared commitment to embedding sustainability into our education, research, leadership, operations, and engagement activities, and to spotlight the students who are the driving force behind this momentum.
