Review written by members of a joint project between the Department of Chemistry and GSK plc selected for the front cover of Chemical Society Review

A review on drug-membrane interactions, written by members of the Non-Specific Binding Initiative, a joint £1M project between the Department of Chemistry and GSK plc ((Chem. Soc. Rev., 2009, 38, 2509 - 2519, DOI: 10.1039/b813853ms) has recently been selected for the front cover of Chemical Society Review. The authors including Drs. Annela Seddon, Oscar Ces, Rob Law and Professor Richard Templer are all members of the NSB Initiative, which was commissioned to investigate the theory that biological membranes within which target receptors reside act as "sinks", drawing molecules (eg. imaging agents, drugs etc) away from their target receptors. This has potentially wide ranging consequences on explaining why certain molecules make good in vivo imaging agents for PET imaging or efficaous drugs.
