Professor David Holden and Professor Geoffrey L Smith have been made founding members of the European Academy for Microbiology. EAM was established by FEMS (Federation of European Microbiological Societies) and it consists of elected senior microbiologists. The mission of EAM is to be the academic authority for microbiology in Europe and to promote scientific excellence and knowledge of microbiology. The formal inauguration of EAM took place on the 29th June in Gotheborg, during the 3rd FEMS Congress.
