Scholarship Opportunities for 2025 entry

The National Heart and Lung Institute (NHLI) is delighted to offer one £5,000 scholarship for applicants to the MSc Bioscience Futures: Communication, Innovation and Entrepreneurship programme for the next academic year, 2025/2026.

This scholarship will be for the sum of £5,000 and is available to students who have applied to start the first academic year of the MSc Bioscience Futures in 2025.

Eligibility

Applications are welcome from any student who has submitted an application to start the course in 2025.

The scholarship is available to both Home and Overseas students. The student awarded the scholarship will receive £5,000 towards their total course fees.

The focus of these scholarships is to increase access to postgraduate study at Imperial for people from under represented groups. You can see further guidance on the Office for Students webpages on who may be considered an under represented group in Higher Education

How to apply

Applications should be submitted through our application form and a supporting CV should be sent to biofutures@imperial.ac.uk

You will be asked to provide a personal statement outlining why you want to study with us and what you aspire to do on completion of the MSc.

Guidance to applicants on the personal statement

Take your time to compose your personal statement. Be yourself.

The best personal statements are based on the applicant’s own honest reflections about their plans and the way to get there. You may need to make more than one draft before submitting your final statement.

The question is really asking, “based on what you know about the course, why do you want to do the MSc and what do you hope to 'take away' from it that will support your future career plans?”.

Please evidence how your studying at Imperial will increase the diversity within the student body and/or how you fall within an under represented group. See Office for Student webpage for guidance on 'under represented groups'.

Deadline

Applications for 2025 entry will close on 2nd June 2025. The decision will be communicated by the end of July to all applicants.

Please note that your CV will need to be sent separately to biofutures@imperial.ac.uk and your application will not be considered until it is received.

Evaluation process

All applications will be initially checked for eligibility. Applications will then be reviewed by the panel and evaluated.

The scholarship will be awarded to the applicant who is deemed by the panel to have the greatest potential in their chosen field and will gain from studying with us.

Terms and conditions

When applying for these scholarships, candidates agree to Imperial's terms and conditions regarding scholarships and bursaries.

Please note, the following conditions override the standard Imperial terms and conditions:

  • Both part-time and full-time students are eligible to apply.
  • An offer of a place is not required before applying, but candidates must first apply for a Master's programme run by the NHLI before applying for either of these Scholarships.
  • Candidates who do not apply through the online scholarship form will not be considered for the NHLI Scholarships.
  • The decision of the selection panel is final. No appeal process is available and we are unable to provide feedback to unsuccessful candidates.
  • Awards cannot be deferred or used to fund non-PGT programmes within NHLI, or programmes run by other faculties or schools at Imperial or elsewhere.
  • Although your scholarship application will be primarily based on your programme application form, the panel may consult your programme application if it is deemed necessary.
  • The continued payment of an NHLI Scholarship is subject to satisfactory academic progression on the programme. Award holders will also be required to maintain a minimum class attendance of 80%.
  • NHLI Scholarships are non-transferable. If you transfer to another institution or withdraw from the College, any payments due to you will be cancelled.
  • Awardees will be required to participate in promotional activities during the course of their studies and allow their image to be used by Imperial for publicity purposes. Such activities may include (but are not limited to) attending recruitment events, discussing their experiences with prospective postgraduate students and producing occasional print or web copy.
