Giuliana is currently a Strategic Research Facilitator at the Faculty of Natural Sciences, where she reports to the Head of Research Strategy and Development. She recently completed her PhD in Chemical Engineering at Imperial College London, supported by the 2019 Marit Mohn scholarship. Under the guidance of Prof. Karen Polizzi, her research focused on producing virus-like particles using the Pichia pastoris expression system for emerging infectious diseases in low- and middle-income countries. This work was part of the EPSRC's Future Vaccine Manufacturing Research Hub. Giuliana is passionate about developing innovative technologies that enhance vaccine manufacturing and delivery, with a strong commitment to ensuring global equitable access to vaccines. Before pursuing her PhD, she gained valuable experience in the vaccine industry, working in the R&D department of the French multinational company Virbac. She holds an MSc in Applied Biosciences and Biotechnology from Imperial College London and a BEng (Hons.) in Biotechnology from ORT University in Uruguay. In 2015, she was awarded the prestigious Chevening Scholarship from the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO) to pursue her master's studies.
