South Kensington

The arts and science institutions in South Kensington were founded with a radical mission; to promote knowledge and inspiration in the arts and science, to be a centre of debate and inquiry, open and accessible to all, for the benefit of society.

Today, Imperial and other members of the Exhibition Road Cultural Group continue to work closely together to create the safe, accessible environment necessary to enable people locally, nationally and internationally to discover South Kensington.

South Kensington has always been a special place for Londoners. We are working together to encourage more local people to make the most of this opportunity to explore the world class opportunities for education, engagement with researhc, hospitality and reatil, on their doorstep.

Great Exhibition Road Festival

A free annual celebration of curiosity, discovery and exploration. The festival is led by Imperial in collaboration with institutions on and around Exhibition Road, including the Royal Albert Hall, V&A, Science Museum, Royal College of Music, Natural History Museum, Royal College of Art, Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea and Westminster City Council. It is due to take place on and around Exhibition Road in July 2021, with more details being released in spring 2021.

Exhibition Road Cultural Group

A registered charity that brings together the leading cultural and educational organisations in South Kensington, including Imperial, the Natural History Museum, the Science Museum, and the Victoria and Albert Museum. Imperial's Vice-President (International) and Associate Provost (Academic Partnerships) is a trustee. The Group is responsible for a range of collaborative initiatives, including Discover South Kensington.

Helix Centre

Exists to translate research into products that improve health outcomes, and forms a joint venture between Imperial and the Royal College of Art, supported by a large grant from the Higher Education Funding Council for England. From the start, the vision for The Helix Centre was rooted in the value of patients’ perspectives, taking their lived experience as the starting point for understanding what high-quality care looks like. The studio is established at St. Mary’s Hospital in Westminster.

Centre for Performance Science

The CPS takes a strongly interdisciplinary approach to investigating performance, accessing expertise and facilities across the Royal College of Music and Imperial. Originally founded in 2000 at the Royal College of Music, it has become an internationally distinctive centre for research, teaching, and knowledge exchange in music performance science.

Active Travel

The College continues to support the campaign for a safe cycle route on Kensington High Street. We know this transport corridor is critically important to our student and staff community, many of whom value it as a safe and protected route between White City and South Kensington, and we are urging all parties to work together to implement a safe solution urgently.
