Who should attend?

University learning and teaching are dynamic and challenging experiences that can give rise to a variety of pleasant and unpleasant emotions for the students and teachers involved.  Learner emotions are important because they have an influence on motivation, learning approaches and outcomes, as well as wellbeing.  Teachers' emotions are fundamental to educational decision-making, teaching effectiveness and teacher-student interactions.  Yet how much do we consciously consider emotion in our educational practice?  In this workshop, we will draw together neuroscientific and psychological concepts to critically consider the role of emotion in the process learning and teaching.  Further, we will consider how emotions can be regulated by students and teachers to support learning and wellbeing.   
 
Based on experience and research, this workshop will share ideas and facilitate activities to critically explore the value of emotion in STEMM educational contexts, including the role of unpleasant emotion.  It will offer practical strategies for working with learner and teacher emotion.  This workshop is for anyone curious or confused about emotion in learning and teaching and who wishes to enjoy their teaching more!
