The Imperial Bursary

“The Imperial Bursary has made a huge difference. It's helped with things like rent, bills, travel, and just the everyday cost of living."

Financial support

Your access to a world-class education should depend on your talent and enthusiasm, not your background or bank balance. That’s why we offer one of the most generous bursary schemes in the UK for Home students – so that everyone can make the most of their Imperial experience.

Abeku and Emilia told us about the difference that receiving the Imperial Bursary has made…

ABEKU, MEDICINE

Living in London can be expensive, from rent, to travel, to eating out.

But it’s also ranked as the best student city in the world! Luckily, Imperial offers the Imperial Bursary, and this was definitely a factor in my decision to study here.

With the bursary offering as much as £5,000 a year, it has certainly made my experience at university totally different. It helped me with things like rent, bills, travel, and just the everyday cost of living – it’s made such a difference.

Without it, I’d probably have had to move back home in my third year, which I know a lot of students can’t do.

Also, with studying Medicine, there are lots of extracurricular activities that you can do, which are really beneficial for your degree.

Without the bursary, I think I would have struggled to afford to do these, and I wouldn’t have been able to build the portfolio I have so far.

EMILIA, GEOLOGY

I wouldn’t have been able to study here without the Imperial Bursary.

It helps with my living costs, things like my food and any social events I want to do.

Before starting university, the cost of studying in London was worrying me. But finding out about the bursary and learning that I would be eligible just put me at ease straight away. It was a weight off my mind.

The application process for the bursary is really simple. You just make sure you tick a box on student finance to say you want the university to see your annual household income and then Imperial contacts you to say you’re eligible. It’s that easy.

I receive the bursary in my bank account each month.

It’s nice having a monthly income for living costs and knowing I don’t have to pay it back.
