Completing the thesis on time is an essential part of successful doctoral research. This blended course goes through the necessary planning steps for preparing your thesis and getting ready for your Viva examination. It will identify the College requirements and also help you understand your supervisors’ and examiners’ role.

Course Information

This course includes pre-course activities consisting of two voiced presentations and a video discussion, where you will be asked to answer questions relating to what you have viewed. 

It is strongly advised that students also attend the following course which provides College guidance on making your thesis open access: Publishing Open Access Your Research and Thesis.

Learning Outcomes

On completion of this workshop you will be able to:

  • Identify what constitutes a thesis and the examination requirements
  • Recognise the steps to be taken and the crucial timings for effective thesis submission
  • Plan the structure your thesis and identify which results to present
  • Recognise the Supervisor’s role in your writing process and Viva preparation process
  • Distinguish the steps involved in the Viva process and recognise the preparation needed
