Stipend Extensions
You should check with your PhD funder whether they have any continuing support for students affected by the pandemic. Information on current UKRI and Wellcome Trust policies can be found via the associated boxes below.
If your funder cannot provide support, you may be able to seek support via your Department. Find out from your Department what the eligibility criteria is and what Departmental process you should follow to apply for an extension to your stipend.
Tuition Fees
During the period of disruption 16 March 2020 – 30 September 2020, it was agreed that all affected research students, except those who are in their Writing Up Phase of their PhD (Completing Research Status or Writing Up Away from College) or those currently interrupted, would be entitled to an automatic registration extension period of up to 6 months. The length of automatic registration extension depended on the level of disruption experienced.
If fees associated with registration extensions were not covered by external funders, students would not be charged additional fees for this period of automatic extension.
Since then, it has also been agreed that if students are still experiencing disruption as a result of the pandemic which extends beyond 01 October 2020, registration extensions will also be fee free.
