SilverCloud: The Leading Digital Mental Health Platform

All registered students at Imperial College London have access to SilverCloud, an online platform that hosts self-help programmes for a range of difficulties. 

SilverCloud offers secure, immediate access to online Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) programmes, tailored to your specific needs.  CBT helps you identify and change those thought and behavioural patterns that have a negative influence on how you are feeling, helping you to make changes for the better.

SilverCloud is accessible 24/7 on computer, tablet or mobile phone.

What is SilverCloud?

SilverCloud is an online package that offers eight self-help psychoeducational programmes.  Based on concepts from Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), the programmes are thematic and provide an interactive aid for you to increase your understanding of a particular difficulty and to help you change the way you think and feel about things. 

Each programme comprises six to eight modules which you can work through in your own time and at your own pace and can be accessed on your computer, tablet or mobile phone. SilverCloud suggests that you might work on one module per programme per week and that you decide on a time once a week that you dedicate to the programme you choose. 

The modules will provide you with information and include videos, quizzes and activities to help your learning.  The interactive tools are easy to use and designed to make your experience interesting and motivational. 

You can use SilverCloud as a self-directed programme or with the support to guide you from one of our Student Counsellors. 

SilverCloud Support Sessions

If you would like to use SilverCloud but are unsure where to start or how to use it, why not contact us for a SilverCloud support session.  Available to all Imperial students, just contact our team counselling@imperial.ac.uk and we can organise a session (up to 50 minutes) via MS Teams online, to get you started on SilverCloud or support you through it.  This isn't counselling, just guided help from an experience counsellor who will help you get the most out of this package.

SilverCloud offers eight programmes:

Space for Positive Body Image

'Body image is how you see yourself when you look in the mirror or when you picture yourself in your mind. It encompasses:

  • What you believe about your own appearance (including your memories, assumptions, and generalisations).
  • How you feel about your body, including your height, shape, and weight.
  • How you sense and control your body as you move.  How you physically experience or feel in your body. 

Many of us internalise messages starting at a young age that can lead to either positive or negative body image. Having a healthy body image is an important part of mental wellbeing and eating disorders prevention.’*

SilverCloud offers a preventive and practical programme built in conjunction with leading clinical and subject matter experts that provides you with the tools and strategies to build a positive body image, better self-esteem and to develop a healthy relationship with food. You can learn about:

  • Self-esteem and what you can do to boost it
  • Tactics to improve your body image
  • Developing new coping mechanisms
  • How to have a healthy relationship to food

Space for Positive Body Image consists of seven modules, complete these in your own time and at your own pace over approximately eight weeks. Each module contains text, video and audio clips as well as interactive and engaging activities that will help promote positive body image and greater self-esteem.

Space from Health Anxiety

We can all worry about our health at times, and it is important to see the doctor to make sure your health is good or that you access any treatment that will be helpful.  Health anxiety is constant concern and worrying about your health status, even when we have been told by a doctor that there is nothing wrong, or we know that our worry is unrealistic.  If your worry interferes with the quality of your daily life or affecting your ability to work or study and your relationships then you do need to seek some support and help. 

Space from Health Anxiety consists of nine modules, complete these in your own time and at your own pace over approximately eight weeks. It includes modules to help you understand your emotions, notice unhelpful behaviours, facing your fears, noticing unhelpful thoughts and challenging those thoughts.  Each module contains text, video and audio clips as well as interactive and engaging activities that will help you to gain control of your anxiety.
