Frequently Asked Questions

In cooperation with the KAIST (Korean Advanced Institute of Science and Technology), Imperial is offering a four-week programme consisting of a four-day professional skills course, followed by a three-week research placement.  Accommodation will be provided during the whole four weeks. The summer school will be held at KAIST in Daejeon, South Korean, and participants will be provided accommodation at KAIST during the three-week placement. This is a chance to get away from your normal working environment, meet people from other disciplines and cultures and have fun!

Information

Summer School

Students from Imperial College and KAIST will participate in the professional skills course. The primary purpose of the course is to enhance both the personal and research effectiveness of participants and it will cover topics including:

  • Managing your research project
  • Intercultural awareness and effective team working
  • Succeeding in collaborative research
  • Building successful working relationships
  • Communication with Impact: reaching different audiences
  • Enhancing networking skills

Participants will work in small groups, assisted by a tutor from one of the participating institutions. The course provides students with a chance to develop their professional and research skills in an international environment.

Research Placement

Following the professional skills summer school, Imperial students will commence a three-week research placement at KAIST. Students are responsible for researching placement opportunities by contacting the relevant academics at KAIST directly, or via their own supervisors/departments. The idea of this programme is to help students gain valuable skills for their PhD (both international professional skills and academic skills). Research placements should be identified and details should be given on the application.  For more information, please see the Frequently asked questions.

It is very important that students complete both the summer school and research placement parts of this programme.
