Motivations and Frustrations
Motivations
Adrian realised in his final year of his undergraduate programme that he was really interested in programming and software engineering. He is now doing the MSc Computing to build these skills and is interested in a role in this field but unsure exactly what that might look like. He knows many graduates go into banking, but he is not interested in that.
Frustrations
He studied Physics at undergraduate because he always thought he wanted to do a PhD. Since he changed subjects, he is concerned that he has wasted time. He also worries about the lack of time he has in his MSc year to make decisions about his next steps especially if he wants to work for a bigger company that runs graduate programmes.
Adrian's Stories
Adrian uses Attributes and Aspirations for Engineering the sections in bold refer to the units he takes.
In his previous degree Adrian really benefited from extra support to help with his mental health and wellbeing. He has already contacted his faculty senior welfare tutor to find out what his department can offer and uses AA3 for ENG – About Imperial to find what other support is available.
In CVA1 for ENG - Introduction to Recruitment Adrian explores his eligibility for a graduate programme. He meets the criteria and starts writing an application. Adrian is not accepted on this scheme but he is accepted on the Ocado Graduate Scheme as a software engineer and moves to Aberdeen. In EE3 for MED – Organisation and Prioritisation he uses prioritisation theories to help him settle in and sort out the important aspects of moving to a new place. Like finding somewhere to live and joining a new squash club.
