Motivations and Frustrations

Motivations

August is motivated by getting really good grades and finding a place where they are accepted for being who they are. They are active in the online gaming community, which is where most of their friends are, but they are becoming more involved with IQ and the Imperial gaming community, which often meet in real life.

Frustrations

August is estranged from their parents and lives with their grandmother in Essex where they commute from. They also work as a tutor to support themselves financially which means time is a frustration.

August's Stories

AA Journey

August uses Attributes and Aspirations for Undergraduate the sections in bold refer to the units they take.

August starts using AA after struggling with the fact that they did not get the grades they wanted at the end of their first year. SD5 - Dealing with Failure helped August reflect on this and how it does not mean they have failed. They then go on to look at AA4 for UG – Time Management which shares ideas on how to set up physical and digital environments that are conducive to productivity. This unit also provides tips for using OneNote on a mobile to catch up while travelling and sharing content between devices.

August met Rachel at an IQ social and in SD3 - Adapting to New Situations Rachel asks for advice on how to manage her new commute. As August lives at home this is something that they have always done and in EE2 for UG – Decision Making we follow them through a day of making decisions from what to have for breakfast, to whether they should apply for a committee role with IQ.

Iin COM4 – Being Professional Online August is accepted on a summer work placement and begins to think about professionalism and what they can and should post on social media about their placement. To further think about professionalism August decides to look at the teamworking module. Part of effective teamwork is being able to set boundaries and in WWO3 for UG – Saying No August discovers the different ways of saying no and how they are used in different situations. The unit also explores how people may feel when being told no.
